Grade 8 Xploratory Music
This 30 day elective offers students the opportunity to get their feet wet within the traditional concert band classroom. Students will select a concert instrument (trumpet, saxophone, percussion, etc.) and learn the basics of playing wind & percussion instruments in a group setting. This is a performance based class that also exposes students to a variety of music genres and artists from Mozart to Metal.

Band 9
This course is an extension of the Gr 8 Xploratory elective. It is offered as a linear, on-timetable, all-year music elective. Interested in joining but missed the grade 8 elective? No problem. This course meets you where you're at and helps you elevate your musicianship. Throughout the year we have multiple public performances as a band, we explore a variety of music genres, and we even cover the basics of working with Electronic Music in a DAW setting.

Concert Band

The Concert Band produces 2-3 public performances per year, organizes fundraisers, and typically travels for festival performances every year or two (Whistler, Banff, etc.). Band 9 is recommended but not required. These courses are designed to meet you where you're at and help elevate your musicianship. This is an off-timetable, linear elective that runs all year. Rock Band
Rock Band (listed as 'Contemporary Music' in your course selection) is primarily a self-directed course that offers students the opportunity to learn how to play 'Pop Music' instruments. Starting with the fundamentals of playing, and moving towards jamming & songwriting, this course helps prepare students for playing and creating music on Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, and Drums.
Music Production
Music Production is part of the Contemporary Music programs offered at Crowe. The focus in Music Production is not on learning instrument, but instead on developing a skillset in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Course content includes: using a DAW, recording techniques, mixing audio, and creating original music/soundtracks.
